A retrospective look at term 1...

I should probably have posted more than once in a month this term, but it has been very hectic... Here are some photos from the somewhat unexpected trip to California, and little outings and culinary experiments from the rest of November.

Connection in Minnesota, where I spotted these cowboys...

More than I could handle: 3 flavours of frozen yoghurt with mounds of toppings

Full moon....almost?

To think this is what some people see everyday...

The Grand Canyon seen from the plane

Having gotten this far, apparently I have uploaded too many pictures, so I will have to put this on pause...

Recent culinary adventures

A few of the tasty (for the most part) things I have made in my new kitchen!

I made a few goodies for Sam's first visit: the first is a simple apple pie made with leftover pastry crust- unfortunately the pastry was salted so that probably wasn't the best of ideas, but it is hard to go wrong with apple pie anyway so I won't deem it a disaster based on that...

And here is a below average version of my fruity zesty sponge. I used tinned peaches instead of fresh fruit, which resulted in less flavour and more gooeyness....it did taste better the day after but unfortunately it was mostly gone by that point. I guess I was being a little picky!

Breaded turkey and a funky omelette on the side...

Spinach, sweet potatoe, onion, chorizo and a tiny weeny bit of feta or goat's cheese...heaven.

Even better in a wrap!

Ok, ok, I may have made it twice...

My first try at Canderli! In a simple vegetable broth.

Marcus Neiman chocolate chip cookies...they were a real hit.

Impromptu carbonara, necessary after my friend cooked about 1600 grams of spaghetti...

My friend wrongly estimated about 20 grams of spaghetti per person, which meant by the end of the NEXT week, we had spaghetti coming out of our ears...

The mini version of a delicious focaccia/pizza i made for Sam and I.

Moving to Cambridge and Week 1

We moved my things to Cambridge on my Birthday and went out for lunch to my favourite cafe in town, called Fitzbillie's. Here are a few snaps:

And here are a few pictures from 'family night' (the College family, that silly complicated tradition...). Myself and my friend Grace bossed our 'husbands' around in the kitchen for a few hours and put them in charge of menial tasks such as washing, and picking up our 'children'. We cooked for eight people, which I think is quite an achievement all things considered, and I think ours was probably one of the most under-control evenings food wise! We made butternut squash soup and home made bread as a starter, stuffed chicken with vegetables as a main, and a very rich chocolate pudding for dessert.

Promoting Amnesty International at the college fair; I organise meetings for a small group, composed of me and a couple friends...

Cooking for Foodcycle, that organisation I volunteered for (and blogged about) in my last term

So much vegetable stir fry! And gallons of soup!
